KINGFIELD – John H. Winter, 75, of Kingfield, died Saturday, Dec. 2, at his home.
He was born Dec. 15, 1930, in Farmington, the son of Harold S. and Mary C. (Hurley) Winter Sr.
He graduated from Kingfield High and Grays Business College in Portland. He served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps.
He married Margaret Nieme on Nov. 6, 1954, in Kingfield.
He worked for Forster Mfg. from 1956 to 1962, then came to H.G. Winter and Sons in Kingfield, where he was vice president and president from 1962 to 2001, when he retired.
He was a member for over 50 years of the Kora Temple Shrine, the Mt. Abram Masonic Lodge, and the American Legion Norton Wuori Post 61.
He was also a member of the Madison/Skowhegan Elks for over 25 years, a long-time member of the Wood Products Manufacturers Association, a former board member of SAD No. 58, and a member of the Sno-wanders Snowmobile Club. He enjoyed and loved his family, spending time at camp on Hancock Pond where everyone kept their clocks by his early morning trips around the pond.
He adored hunting with the boys at Pizzonia and all who visited the “Men’s Rooms.”
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret; two daughters, Tanya Wilber and her companion, Casper Haines, of Salem, and Shelby Banks and her husband, Jack, of Kingfield; two granddaughters, Deanna Haines and her husband, Garold, of Avon, and Darcy Wilber of New Vineyard; two great-grandchildren, Caleb Haines and Taegan Heath; and his mother-in-law, Lempi Niemi of Kingfield.
He was predeceased by two daughters, Cheryl and Pamela Winter; and a brother, Sumner Winter.
