NEWBURYPORT, Mass. – Winthrop M. Comley Jr., 86, of Merrimac, Mass., formerly of West Paris, died suddenly Friday afternoon, Dec. 1, 2006, at the Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, Mass.
He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy M. (Edgerton) Comley, who died in 2003, and to whom he had been married for sixty-four years.
Born in Newburyport, March 14, 1920, he was the son of the late Winthrop M. and Winifred A. (Greenwood) Comley and had attended schools in Lancaster, Mass.
A lumberjack by profession, he enjoyed farming, logging and operating heavy equipment.
He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Amesbury, Mass., for 50 years, and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Woodstock for 30 years.
His survivors include his two sons, Winthrop M. “Bud” Comley III, of South Paris, and Willard M. Comley, and wife Vanessa, of Rexville, N.Y.; his daughter, Mildred Dale Brewer of Atlanta, Ga.; his brother, Charles W. Comley of Tucson, Ariz.; his sister, Virginia Churchill of Merrimac, Mass., with whom he made his residence over the past few years; seventeen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including William H. Goodwin Jr. of East Kingston, N.H.; and his brother-in-law, Rev. Gordon B. Edgerton and wife, Lois, of Tarburg, N.Y.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Dorothy Dawn Comley.
