LEWISTON – Traffic will be briefly re-routed around a downtown holiday celebration procession on Lisbon Street at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Participants in the procession, to include Santa and Mrs. Claus, will leave The Public Theatre parking lot at 5:30 p.m., proceed down Lisbon Street and arrive at Courthouse Plaza at 5:45 p.m. where activities and entertainment are on tap.

To prepare for the event’s procession, city workers will barricade intersections and detour traffic away from the Lisbon Street area for approximately a half hour.

Downtown traffic will be detoured onto Adams Avenue and over to Bartlett Street. During the brief time that the procession is in the area, VIP Discount Auto Parts will have a manned barricade for the Park Street entrance with a sign advising “No through traffic,” with the entrance available for use by customers only.

The closed intersections will be opened immediately after the procession passes, with traffic staying behind the police and fire vehicles that will conclude the procession.
