WILMINGTON, Vt. (AP) – The owner of the Mount Snow Airport was killed when his plane crashed about one mile south of the airport, police said.
The body of Robert B. North, 65, of West Dover, was found Sunday in the wreckage of the Smith Aerostar 601P, a twin-engine propeller airplane.
Civil Air Patrol spotted the plane in a heavily wooded area at 9:11 a.m., officials said.
The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash, said Jim Peters, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration.
The plane left White Plains, N.Y., just after noon on Saturday and was due at Mount Snow at around 2 p.m. A search was launched at around 6 p.m., officials said.
Peters said the pilot was using visual flight rules and had no contact with the ground after leaving White Plains.
“We didn’t pick up that there was anything wrong,” said Peters.
