The skating at Sabattus is said to be good now and even the ice boats were out skimming from one end of the lake to the other. The boys are also skating on the river just below the North Bridge.
Judge A. R. Savage of Auburn decreed that the Auburn Young Men’s Christian Association’s property on Court street shall be sold at auction at the County Buildings Dec. 31.
Practically all arrangements have been made for the Lewiston and Auburn Merchants’ Week and the merchants are now hoping for good weather. “If the weather is favorable this year’s Merchant’s Week ought to surpass that of last year in every way,” said a prominent member of the association.

Ninety-three Maine men will be called by Selective Service for Army induction in January, state draft headquarters said today. The number is 13 less than the December call, although the Army’s national call remained unchanged at 17,000.
Auburn Christmas decoration lights went up and the job is expected to be completed today, so that the lights may be turned on. No special ceremonies are planned for the lighting of the decorations.
Supt. Lewis E. Webber reported to the committee that it would cost an additional $1,888.70 up to April 1 for PAL use of the ELHS gymnasium for basketball. This figure includes extra janitorial costs and five additional tons of coal a week to enable the players to use the gym.
25 Years Ago, 1981
The area’s first storm brought seven inches of wet snow and power outages to both Lewiston and Auburn. The storm plunged several towns into blackness for hours at a time. Lewiston street lights were still out late, after the city’s pumping station was forced to shut them off at 3:30 a.m. due to downed power lines. The storm was considered major by Lewiston Public Works Director Roger Pruneau who said the heavy, wet snow and the drifting kept his crews busy throughout the day.
