CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – Thanks to an agreement with the Mount Washington Cog Railway, the summit of Mount Washington will be added to the state’s electric grid.

Buildings on the summit, including the Mount Washington Observatory and several state park buildings, get their power from generators.

Four years ago, after its main generation building burned down, the state began looking into running an electric line to the summit. The agreement will allow the state to bury electric lines alongside the Cog Railway track.

Initial plans were to run wires through conduit on the railway trestle above ground.

Concerns about liability prompted the new plan.

The state hopes to complete the $2.5 million dollar project next year.
