TURNER – Selectmen discovered a scheduling conflict following their Monday meeting, and will formally announce at their meeting on Dec. 18 new dates for election and town meeting in March 2007.
The new dates are Friday, March 30, for elections, and Saturday, March 31, for town meeting. Selectmen had set the election and meeting for April 13 and 14 before discovering the problem.
In other meeting news, selectmen announced a meeting to be held this Thursday between the Town Office Building Committee, contractor for the building project H.E. Callahan Inc. of Auburn, other involved town committee members, and some selectmen. Selectmen’s Chairman Dennis Richardson hopes the meeting will produce proof that necessary permits are in hand for building the new town office at its present site.
The site, at the intersection of routes 4 and 117, is close to the Nezinscot River and in an area that has been designated wetland in the past. Richardson said he wants “to be totally certain that permitting for construction of the town office on the site will not be an issue after we have prepared the warrant articles for town meeting.”
The Town Budget Committee will hold its first meeting of the budget cycle at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14, at the town office. The session will set the committee’s agenda for hearing budget proposals and meeting dates and times.
