BUCKFIELD – The Buckfield Village Corporation Task Force will meet Thursday, Dec. 7, to discuss what recommendations it may have for dealing with the corporation’s debt, Town Manager Glen Holmes told selectmen Tuesday night.
Holmes said they could choose to do nothing or decide the town should consider taking over the water company or any other options they could find. The decision is back into the town’s hands as state representatives, who met recently, said they saw no solution.
BVC Task Force members are Charles Berg, Judy Berg, Terry Hayes, Penny Horsfall and Mike Vayda.
The board reviewed the Buckfield Rescue Department policies developed by the department and Holmes. The policies covered disciplinary, medical and nonmedical leave of absence, meeting/training conduct, general response/professionalism, full-time employee responsibility, crew chief, driver and helper, orientation, volunteer minimum requirements, chain of command, volunteer requirements and position outlines.
Selectman Skip Stanley questioned who would suffer most if a 30-day suspension was applied after a third disciplinary violation. He suggested one to two weeks might serve the need better. Stanley also asked for clarification on turning in equipment on medical leave, but not on nonmedical. Holmes said that those on medical leave would not be able to respond, where one on nonmedical leave might be able to.
The chain of command policy lists the Board of Selectmen, followed by the town manager, chief of service, assistant chief and crew chief. Stanley told Homes the board should be aware of any problems before they had to deal with any issue. Holmes replied, “Absolutely.”
Holmes gave the board a holiday schedule as follows: Office hours Friday, Dec. 22, 8 a.m. until noon. Closed Saturday, Dec. 23, and Monday, Dec. 25. Regular office hours resume on Tuesday, Dec. 26, through Saturday, Dec. 30. Closed on Monday, Jan. 1.
