LEWISTON – United Ambulance Service has recently donated two wheelchair vans to local families.

One van, a 1994 Ford Club Wagon, was donated to Mark and Kathy Michaud of Auburn. For the past few years Michaud has been battling Multiple Sclerosis. In July, his condition worsened, causing him to become confined to a wheelchair.

The second van, a 1996 Ford Club Wagon, was donated to Manoli Swanson of Turner. Swanson was in need of a van in order to transport her son, Gunner Swanson. Gunner, 9, is diagnosed with cerebral palsy.

Both families will use their van to transport their family members to doctors’ appointments and activities that would have otherwise been difficult to accomplish without the donations.

“We were fortunate that we were in a position to be able to donate these vans,” said Kevin Thomas, wheelchair supervisor.
