GRISWOLD, Conn. (AP) – A bank robbery suspect in Griswold didn’t get very far.

State police said Patrick Richelieu, 40, of Kennebunkport, Maine, was still wearing a mask when he was met outside the bank doors by a state police trooper, who quickly took him into custody.

Trooper John Jette had been patrolling the Griswold business area about 5 p.m. Wednesday when he noticed a man acting suspiciously near the Putnam Savings Bank on Route 164. The man walked into the bank and when he came out a short time later, wearing a mask, Jette was waiting.

Police later learned the suspect approached the tellers, indicated he had a weapon and demanded money.

There were no injuries.

Richelieu is facing several charges and is being held on a $1 million bond.
