DIXFIELD – There are still a few seats available on the second Neighborly Senior Citizens bus trip to Indian Head Resort in Lincoln, N.H., on Monday, Dec. 11.

The $45 price includes bus, welcome reception, luncheon buffet, floor show and dance band as well as a Christmas party with gift and a visit from Santa, free photo and sing-a-long. Entertainment will be by the All New Silver Bells Christmas Review from Montreal. Pick-up will be in Dixfield, Mexico and Bethel.

Story hour

MEXICO – Preschool story and craft hour will feature “furry friend” Christmas stories on Tuesday, Dec. 12. Stories will include “The Wild Christmas Reindeer” by Jan Brett; “Clifford’s Christmas Presents” by Norman Bridwell; “Christmas Cricket” by Eve Bunting; and “Merry Christmas, Big Hungry Bear” by Don and Audrey Wood.

Reindeer goodie bags will be the craft.

All children, ages 2 to 5, are welcome.

Seniors program

RUMFORD – Rumford Senior Citizens and SeniorsPlus will join for an entertainment program by the seventh and eighth grades from St. John and St. Anthanasius at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12. Lunch will be served at 11:30 and they will play bingo at 12:30 p.m.

The Senior Citizens will have a Christmas dinner on Thursday, Dec. 21. Those interested are asked to sign up early for the dinner.

There will be door prizes, 50/50, guess the amount of candy in the jar and Santa.

The Christmas trip to the Beacon has five seats left. The cost is $50 for members and $55 for nonmembers. Tickets are available for Stars on Ice on March 24. The cost is $45 for members and $50 for nonmembers.

Sharing meal

RUMFORD – The Widows or Widowers Sharing will meet at noon Wednesday, Dec. 13, in the Rumford Methodist Church fellowship hall, Linnell Street. The church personnel will cater a ham dinner. Attendees should contact Margaret Aleck at 364-8624 to register and pre-pay.

Following the meal, Christmas music will be performed by Norman and Isabelle Robichaud and Bernadette Hodgkins. They perform regularly with the Fishers of Men. Among the musical instruments will be guitar, harmonica and accordion. There will also be a sing-along.

Members are invited to bring canned goods for the local food pantry. All area widows and widowers are welcome to preregister for the meal and program.

Collect toner

RUMFORD – The Maine Elks Association is collecting empty inkjet and toner cartridges. All proceeds will benefit the Maine Children’s Cancer Program.

Empty cartridges may be donated to 22 lodges around Maine. For more information locally, contact Chairwomen Debi Briggs at 364-2479 or Sandee Welch at 364-2548 at the Rumford Elks Lodge. For pick-up, contact the chairwomen.

History available

PERU – The Peru Historical Society has placed copies of the “History of Peru, 1789-1911” by Hollis Turner at the Peru Town Office for $30. They may be picked up anytime that the office open or reserved by calling the office at 562-4627 or Robert Dolloff at 562-7141.

The Peru Historical Society will not meet in December, but the annual meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 10.

Bowling results

RUMFORD – The Sunday Wonders bowling team will start bowling at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10. After bowling, the group will go to the home of Donna Cunningham for a Christmas party.

Scores from the Sunday Wonders bowling team from Nov. 26 games included: high single, 118, Sandy Glazier; high triple, 311, Bunny Lufkins; Special, Penny LeMay.

Scores from Dec. 3 games: high single, 114, Karen Fitzherbert, high triple, 312, Karen Fitzherbert; and special, Cathy McDonald.
