LEWISTON – The Lewiston Auburn Optimist Club is encouraging area students to expound on the phrase, “I want to make a difference because…” as part of the Optimist International Essay Contest for 2007. The essay is to be between 400 and 500 words, and the contest is open to any student under the age of 19 as of Dec. 31 of this year.

The LA Optimist Club will judge the local essays and determine the top winners. Winners will receive awards and the winning essay sent to the district contest, where a $650 scholarship will be awarded. Thousands of dollars of college scholarships are available at the national level.
