Global warming/climate change affects everyone. There has been, and will be, significant changes in weather locally and globally. This is called the “echo effect” of larger events that people should pay attention to. The ice storm in Maine years ago and hurricanes such as Katrina will happen with more frequency, and in different forms. If people allow that trend to continue, the natural order will be out of balance and might not be reversed, with catastrophic consequences.
We have an obligation to ourselves and future generations to be proactive and demand change. By voting in the marketplace, corporations and politicians will respond.
Education is always the answer. I encourage people to seek experts on climate change to speak at organizations, clubs, schools or businesses. People need to talk about the issues with their children, as children will inherit our action or inaction. And start a grassroots effort to contact politicians and corporations, so people’s opinions will be known.
At the present time, scientific studies and conclusions are being left to politicians and the U.S. Supreme Court. Global warming is a frightening situation. The Bush administration is rolling the dice and wants it both ways. We cannot sit by and not speak up.
We must support research for alternative energy – get off fossil fuels. I encourage people to monitor their own fossil fuel usage and see how they can save money, as well as lower enviromentally damaging consumption.
