BRUNSWICK – Michael Westbrook buried the game-winning jump shot from the center of the free-throw line with one second remaining to lift Colby to a 68-67 win over Bowdoin in men’s basketball action Saturday.

The Mules (5-3) held a three-point edge at intermission (34-31) behind the red-hot shooting of Mark Gaudet. Gaudet finished with a game-high 21 points.

The Polar Bears (5-3) responded to the halftime deficit as Kevin Bradley sparked a 12-1 run, keyed by a pair of trifectas. Bradley notched another 3-pointer to give the Mules a one-point edge (67-66) with 13 seconds remaining.

Westbrooks hit the winning jump shot after a broken offensive play by taking a pass at the elbow and driving to the center of the lane, before connecting from eight feet out.

NHT 97, UMA 77

CONCORD, N.H. – N.H. Tech hit 13 3-pointers and outscored the University of Maine at Augusta by 20 points in the second half to cruise to a 97-77 victory in men’s college basketball Saturday afternoon.

Chris Lawes of N.H. Tech (7-1) led all scorers with 26 points while Justin Baum and Pat Raymond each added 13. Jonathan Hill poured in 18 points while Deon Cheers had 17 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists for UMA.

Eastern Connecticut 74, USM 70

GORHAM – Junior forward Leon Martin scored seven of 19 points in the final four minutes of the game to lead the Eastern Connecticut State University to a 74-70 win over the University of Southern Maine in LEC men’s basketball action Saturday.

Martin was a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe and was one of three Warriors (6-2) in double figures.

Junior center Nick Gooding and junior forward Drew Coppenrath posted double-doubles for the Huskies (2-5). Gooding had 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Coppenrath garnered 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Husson 87, Becker 48

BANGOR – Tyler Muzzy and Martin Cleveland scored 16 points each in a balanced attack as Husson cruised to an 87-48 triumph over Becker College in men’s basketball action Saturday.

The Eagles (6-1) jumped out to an overwhelming 47-16 halftime lead. Nineteen players saw playing time, and 14 members of the squad posted at least one field goal.

Aldric Bordeax led the Hawks (1-8) with 11 points in the loss.

Thomas 84, Unity 70

WATERVILLE – Backed by Darrell Alexander’s 22 points and Scott Peter’s 20 points Thomas College notched game one of the Thomas College Terrier Tip-Off over Unity College in men’s basketball action Saturday.

Unity was led by Jared Erskine of Greene, who had 15 points.

In game two of the Terrier Tip-Off, the University of Maine at Fort Kent defeated the University of Maine at Presque Isle 77-63. The Beavers had five different players in double figures led by Gediminas Sunyla with 13 points.

Travis Hovey and Thomas Wire scored 13 points each for the Owls in the loss.
