The sad news reached Lewiston of the death from asphyxiation by gas of Ex-Governor Alonzo Garcelon of this city, widely known as the “grand old man of Maine.” The asphyxiation was accidental, and according to Dr. Cleaves, the old man was easily overcome because of his extreme age and feeble condition.
Two thousand members of the industrial workers of the world quit at the local plant of the General Electric Company in Schenectady, N.Y., because the company refused to reinstate three members of the union. Two of them had been discharged for inefficiency and trouble with a foreman and one had resigned and wanted to be reemployed after his resignation had been accepted.

The Bath Iron Works Corp., which concluded a new wage agreement with production workers after threats of a strike, announced plans for a $250,000 Christmas bonus.
It was reported by Charles Levin, Lewiston realtor, that Lewiston was surveyed some two months ago by the largest concern of its type constructing shopping centers and that as a result of the survey it turned down Lewiston as the site of any such project.

Ribbon-cutting ceremonies for two new Aubuchon Hardware stores in the Twin Cities will be held next week, bringing the total to 117 stores operated by the Massachusetts firm of W.E. Aubuchon Co., Inc.
A Sabattus man escaped injury after a Maine Central Railroad engine struck his car at a railroad crossing on Crowley Road in one of two accidents reported to Lewiston police.
Tolls on the 100-mile Maine Turnpike have not been increased since 1958, but the prospects are that they will be hiked early in the coming year. The consultant firm of Wilbur Smith and Associates, of New Haven, Conn., have suggested increasing auto tolls by 25 percent and truck tolls by 35 percent.
