RUMFORD – Central Maine Power Co. recently closed on the purchase of the former Cormier building and nine acres in the Rumford Industrial Park.

CMP spokeswoman Gail Rice said the utility purchased the property for an undisclosed amount from Androscoggin Properties LLC.

The CMP building, a satellite of the Farmington facility, has been located in downtown Rumford on Canal Street for more than 50 years, Rice said. The Farmington CMP station has another smaller satellite facility in Stratton.

She said the 10 employees, two pickups and three bucket loaders housed on Canal Street will likely move into the new building sometime in the next few months.

She said the company must conduct some modifications to the steel building before the move can be made.

“This is a good thing, the move. It will give us more wiggle and breathing room,” she said Friday afternoon.

The current site has often presented problems with parking the vehicles.

The utility has no specific plans for the existing building on Canal Street. More may be known in a few months, she said.

The move will not change CMP’s operation out of Rumford. Rice said the number of employees and equipment is expected to stay the same.
