If people read the column by Linda MacGregor (Dec. 4, River Valley edition) they might be wondering what is going on in Rumford. According to the column, a small group of people is causing a great deal of trouble.
In one aspect, she’s right – a small group of town officials is not following the town’s charter and by-laws, and that is, indeed, causing trouble.
Fortunately, there is another group that is made up of the majority of voters. That group said “no” to a $3 million “white elephant” at the town hall; they said “yes” to voting at the ballot box instead of the very limited town meeting, and they said “no” to changing the town’s charter to make the town manager’s inappropriately issued contract appear to be valid.
People should know that democracy is alive and well in Rumford.
