LEWISTON – Richard E. Newton, 61, of Turner, died Saturday, Dec. 9, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Paris on Dec. 6, 1945, the son of Ronald Bridgam and Phyllis Lucinda Sampson Newton. He attended schools in Turner and Buckfield.

He had been employed with Cianbro Corp. for 41 years, doing fabrication and steel work, also working in Portland on multi-purpose supply vessels. He married Rose Ann Rucker on June 13, 1964, in Buckfield.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He was a member of the NRA and the NAHC. He attended his grandkids games and played a very active role in the lives of his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of Turner; three sons, Richard R., and his wife, Nancy, of Sumner, Jeffrey W., and his wife, Alison, of Turner and Kenneth E., and his wife, Sheila, of Hartford; two grandchildren, Jeffrey W. Jr. and Adrianna R., both of Turner; a brother, Gerald W., and his wife, Grace, of South Paris; an uncle, Roderick Newton of Turner; his mother-in-law, Salme Rucker of Auburn; and nieces, nephews and many cousins.
