STRONG – The Strong Area Business and Civic Alliance will host an afternoon and early evening holiday celebration for the community today at the Forster Memorial Building. See the Web page for an update if weather might require changes: http://www.strongmaine.com/SABACAevents.htm.

At 3 p.m., Santa will arrive. Last year he greeted more than 100 youngsters, and everyone received a small gift. Plans are the same for this year.

Starting at 6:30 p.m., the second annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony will include an old-fashioned caroling. Then, Rep. Tom Saviello will present the first Unsung Heroes Award for community service. Community members have been nominated, but results are secret until the ceremonies.

The alliance has been selling remembrance lights at $10 a strand for people who would like to contribute in memory of a loved one. Stop by the Strong Market to purchase the lights or call Eileen Miazga at 684-3441. Call 684-3441 for more information.

Three secret judges will be roaming the Strong area, including West Freeman and Freeman, to judge the entries in the home decorations contest. Three winners will receive gifts, and entries will be judged on creativity and artistic appeal. Call Diana Romanoski at 684-4777 to register.

Romanoski is also the contact person for the gingerbread creations contest. Winners will be announced after the tree lighting ceremony. There will be hot cocoa and cookies after.
