This is in response to a letter from Robert Macdonald, printed Dec. 4.
As a resident of Lewiston grateful to be represented by others at memorial services for our deceased veterans, when many cannot attend due to work obligations, I am appalled by anyone complaining that some should not attend such a service.
Macdonald paints a lovely picture of some of those that attend, but chooses to single out a candidate for Lewiston mayor: Laurent Gilbert. I’ll bet Macdonald doesn’t know how many funerals, memorial services and visits to the state veterans cemetery Gilbert has made on his own and without fanfare.
My father, a deceased veteran, would have been proud to be remembered.
My son had Gilbert’s guidance and chose to serve our great nation in the U.S. Navy. I feel that before people throw stones at someone, they must do their homework. It is a fact that many grieving widows of fallen servicemen/women and lost law enforcement professionals can say they have found comfort on Gilbert’s shoulder.
