WATERVILLE – Stephen H. Crowley, 82, of Oakland, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, at Oak Grove Living and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Lewiston on March 3, 1924, the son of Stephen and Lucy (Collins) Crowley Sr.
He grew up in Lewiston and graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy in Great Neck, Long Island, N.Y.
He served in the American Merchant Marine and the U.S. Navy during WWII. During the war, he served in the North Atlantic and the European areas.
He lived many years in the Lewiston area, where he was supervisor for Bates Manufacturing for over 30 years. Later he became supervisor for Cascade Woolen Mill in Oakland, retiring in 1989.
He moved to Oakland in 1978, where he became active in the Oakland Lions Club and a member of Notre Dame Church in Waterville.
He enjoyed ice fishing, hunting and loved to play golf.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by five sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Lucille (Levesque) Crowley, who he married Dec. 23, 1944. He is also survived by a daughter, Susan Crowley of Brighton, Mass.
