LEWISTON – John “Popeye” McDonald Jr., 71, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Central Maine Medical Center. He was a resident of Mexico Avenue in Mexico.
He was born in Mexico, on July 23, 1935, a son of John and Delia (Roderick) McDonald Sr. He attended Rumford schools. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1972, as a CS1. He also worked for Archie’s in Mexico as a truck driver for 20 years.
He was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Church in Mexico and a lifetime member of Robert Shand Post 1641 VFW.
He was married in Rumford on Oct. 6, 1962 to Theresa Ricci, who survives, of Mexico.
Other survivors include a son, John McDonald III, and his wife, Joan, of Rumford; a daughter, Pamala Giberson, and her companion, Jay White, of Mexico; three brothers, Joseph McDonald, and his wife, Julie, of Rumford, Dan McDonald, and his wife, To-To, of Rumford and Steve McDonald, and his wife, Jane, of Rumford; two sisters, Jeannette McDonald of Mexico and Joyce Radcliff and her husband, Edgar, of North Ft. Myers, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Alyssa, Hanna, Josh and Lilly.
