AUBURN – Nobody was seriously hurt, but traffic backed up for miles Friday afternoon when a minivan and pickup truck collided on Route 4.
Police who responded to the 5 p.m. crash near Lake Auburn quickly called for additional help as traffic backed up in both directions along the busy corridor.
Police said a woman driving a minivan pulled out of St. Phillips Church into the path of a northbound pickup truck. The vehicles collided and blocked both north and southbound lanes. Police said the drivers were examined by paramedics, but no life-threatening injuries were reported.
The names of the drivers were not available Friday night.
With fire and rescue crews at the scene, police called for extra manpower to help direct traffic around the site. Both northbound lanes and one southbound lane were closed for about 10 minutes.
“In that amount of time, it backed up traffic into downtown Auburn,” said police Lt. Tim Cougle. “It caused a serious traffic situation because of the timing. It’s Route 4, and it was rush hour.”
