AUBURN – Norman Joseph Todd Sr., 61, of Sumner, died peacefully at the Hospice House, surrounded by his family and most loving wife, Diane, on Dec. 15. Norm beat the odds and after a long battle with Amyloid (a rare blood disease) he let go.
He was born in Providence, R.I., on Jan. 19, 1945, the son of the late Norman S. and Gertrude (Tetreault) Todd, and was educated in Assumption schools, graduated from Attleboro High School in 1962, and Johnson & Wales in 1966.
At the age of 15, he moved to Attleboro, Mass., met the love of his life, married her on Sept. 4, 1965, and raised a family. He proudly served our country, serving in the Army during the Vietnam War.
His life’s work was food; restaurants, delis and ice cream-making. He loved his family, friends, parties and Christmas. In his presence one never went hungry or “thirsty.”
In 2002, he and Diane retired to Maine, fulfilling a life-long dream. He was very much at home. He loved life and some things he loved were sunbathing, swimming, gambling, gimlets, cooking, cards, chowder, clam cakes, prime rib, baked macaroni, the pond, the beach and NASCAR.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Diane (Abbott) Todd of Sumner; two sons, Norman Todd Jr., and his wife, LeeAnne, of Rehoboth, Mass. and Jason Todd, and his wife, Marianne, of Sumner; one daughter, Kristine Todd of Industry; three sisters, Ann Reid, and her husband, Andy, of Warwick, R.I., Elaine Angel, and her husband, Tom, of Providence, R.I. and Joan Duchesneau, and her husband, Allen, of Cranston, R.I.; three grandchildren, Diana Todd, William Todd and Jarrod Todd; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
