NORWAY – Bernard B. Bailey, 75, of South Paris, died on Friday, Dec. 15, at Stephens Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born in Greenwood on Jan. 13, 1931, to Phillip and Florence (Madore) Bailey.
He graduated from South Paris High School in 1949. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged on Dec. 16, 1952.
He attended the University of Maine, where he was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. He worked for A.C. Lawrence Leather Co. in South Paris for over 31 years, where he was in charge of its lab until its closure.
He then worked for a lab in Topsham, overseeing the removal of asbestos.
He enjoyed coaching Babe Ruth Baseball, umpiring baseball for the local schools and refereeing basketball.
He was a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth “Beverly” Bailey of South Paris; a daughter, Karen and husband, Dean Aldrich, of Jacksonville Fla.; two sons, Martin Bailey and his companion, Sheree Colburn, of Lewiston, and Michael Bailey and wife, Kerri, of Oxford; a brother, Kent Bailey of Cape Cod, Mass.; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Bailey of Portland; three grandchildren, Derek and Kendall Aldrich and Haakon Teceno; and two great-grandchildren.
