RUMFORD – David Thomas Todd, 54, formerly of Erchles Street, died Friday, Dec. 15, at Rumford Hospital with his loving family at his side. During the past three years, he has resided at the Rumford Community Home.
He was born in Rumford on Nov. 27, 1952, a son of Alfred and Anne E. (Gidman) Todd.
He was born with Down Syndrome and was a catalyst for the formation of the organization that would become today’s Oxford County ARC.
His Aunt Josie and Uncle Joseph Costanzo were instrumental in starting a grassroots organization that has evolved into the present Oxford County ARC, which is devoted to the care of mentally challenged adults, and is also where David spent many happy years.
He loved to listen to Johnny Cash, and a highlight in his life was meeting Johnny Cash and having his picture taken with him at the Augusta Civic Center in 1993. He loved dogs, watching the Three Stooges, and dancing.
During his later years, he was lovingly cared for by the late Ginger Webber and her daughter, Jessica.
Most recently, he was cared for by Francine Cronin, who in the last three years cared for him as Oxford County ARC Outreach Care Manager. Francine became part of David’s family and was with him when he passed.
Surviving are a sister, Maryanne Todd of Rumford; three brothers, John Todd and wife, Lisa, of Raceland, La., Marshall Todd and wife, Ginny, of Rumford, and Andrew Todd of Rumford; nieces, Bridget Todd Venegas of Richmond, Va., and Kristen Chapman and husband, Joel, of West End, N.C.; a nephew, Richard Todd of Rumford; a great-niece, Grace Chapman; and a great-nephew, Caleb Chapman.
