TAMPA, Fla.- Eric Staal scored the go-ahead goal, Cam Ward had 30 saves, and the Carolina Hurricanes stopped a five-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Staal scored with 7:02 remaining in the game on a rebound after Erik Cole’s shot hit the post.

Ray Whitney had two goals for Carolina, including one on a breakaway to make it 3-1 with 1:24 remaining.

Ryan Craig and Martin St. Louis had the Lightning goals. Tampa Bay has lost four in a row and eight of nine.

St. Louis’ power-play goal in the final minute pulled Tampa Bay within 3-2.
