Pioneer Ch. 11 OES dinner

LISBON FALLS – Pioneer Chapter 11, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, the Masonic Hall, Route 196. The meeting will begin with a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. The program will be “Religion, Giving Praise in Song and Prayer,” honoring the chaplain and organist. Dale Hanington, grand chaplain, and Elizabeth Syvinski, grand organist, have been invited.

Scholarship program

LEWISTON – Zark VanZandt, dean of L/A College, will headline the Wednesday, Dec. 20, noon lunch meeting of the Auburn Lewiston Kiwanis Club at the Ramada Inn.

The club will award three college scholarship to students and their parents from Lewiston, St. Dominic and Edward Little high schools.

Toy library party

LEWISTON – The Toy Library will have a potluck Christmas party from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21. Cost is $2 a child. There will be games, food, prizes and possible crafts. For more information, call 782-1112.

Basilica service

LEWISTON – A Service of Lessons and Carols will be celebrated at Saints Peter and Paul Basilica at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23. The Christmas story will be told through Scripture, and there will be seasonal hymns, advent and Christmas music performed by the Basilica Choir, accompanied by John Corrie on the Casavant organ, brass and the St. Peter Schola Cantorum. Admission is free, although donations to the organ restoration fund would be appreciated.

Babysitting class

LEWISTON – The YWCA of Central Maine will offer an American Red Cross babysitter’s training course starting Jan. 13.

The course will provide individuals ages 11 to 15 with the information and skills to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or adult guardians. It will help participants develop skills in leadership and professionalism, basic care, safety and safe play and first aid.

The course will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on three consecutive Saturdays, Jan. 13, 20 and 27. The cost s $50 for YWCA members and $70 for nonmembers. For more information or to register, call or stop by the YWCA, 130 East Ave., 795-4050.

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Dec. 12 were: N/S, first, Patricia Smith and Shirley West; second, Jan Arey and Linda Leotsakos; third, Luke Merry and Paul Sherman; first in B, Roger Briggs and Charles Bartlett.

E/W, first, Patricia Garcia and David Lock; second, Claire Lyons and Rosemarie Goodwin; third, Nancy Lindgren and Les Buzzell; fourth, Donna Bartlett and Sue Kaluzynski.

Winners at Schooner Estates in Auburn on Dec. 13 were: first, Paul Barber and Luke Merry; second, Martine Begert and David Lock; third, Katie Love and Mike Quinn; fourth, Sharron Hinckley and Sally Magee.
