LEWISTON – The Rev. Germain H. Bureau, 79, of Lewiston, died Friday, Dec. 15, at Ste. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion.

He was born in Waterville, Aug. 10, 1927, the son of Joseph and Helena Langlois Bureau.

He was educated in Lewiston schools, graduated from the St. Charles Seminary in Sherbrook, and attained his degrees in philosophy and theology at the University of Ottawa.

He was ordained to the priesthood on May 30, 1953, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland, by the Most Rev. Daniel J. Feeney, Bishop of Portland.

His assignments included ministry in Fort Kent, Sanford, Auburn, Biddeford, Hamlin, Limestone, Berwick, Lewiston and Oakland.

He loved sports, especially hockey and tennis.

He traveled extensively to England, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Greece, Israel, Mexico, Alaska and Florida.

He is survived by four sisters, Jacqueline Madore of Bristol, Conn., Jeannine Carini of Glastonbury, Conn., Angeline Pellerin and husband, Roger, of Lewiston, and Madeleine Cote and husband, Armand, of Lisbon Falls; a brother, Normand Bureau and wife, Irene, of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Marielle LeBlanc; brothers-in-law, Robert LeBlanc, Lucien Madore and Edward Carini; and a niece, Ann Marie Dupre.
