The superintendent of School Union 30 in Lisbon is pushing for current Lisbon Community School fifth-graders to make a move to Philip W. Sugg Middle School. But the town’s comprehensive plan states the Sugg school is inadequate to meet the needs of its 250 current students. Yet the superintendent wants to add an additional 125 students to it.
The superintendent is using last year’s total of 760 students for this year’s argument for overcrowding. We have approximately 713 students as of October, when the superintendent brought this matter to our Parent-Teacher Organization meeting. She argues that Lisbon Community School is overcrowded, when, in my opinion, it is not.
We were promised a public meeting, so the public could be heard. Time is running out. A decision has to be made by January or February and we are not going to get our due. We voted for a K-6 school. We have a multi-million dollar school with 95,000 square feet.
I believe we have the room.
