TOGUS – William (Willie) A. Small, 59, of Saco and formerly of Casco, died Dec. 15, at the Togus VA Hospital.

He was born in Casco on March 19, 1947, a son of Delmar and Mary Farwell Small, and attended local schools.

He graduated from Casco High School in 1966. He played basketball all four years at Casco High School and was on the 1964 State Championship team.

He was a Vietnam veteran in the U.S. Army, serving from 1967 to 1968 and experienced the Tet of ’68.

For 38 years, he worked in the concrete foundation industry. He was an avid N.Y. Yankees and N.Y. Giants fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR. He also liked playing pool and trivia with his best friend, Albert Leborgne.

On Dec. 8, he celebrated 15 months of sobriety.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his sister, Methyl.

He was expecting his sixth grandchild in January.

Surviving are his wife and soulmate for 30 years, Stephanie Smith Small of Westbrook; three sons, Chris Small of Casco, Jason Small of Lewiston, and Aaron Small of Auburn; his brother, Harvey C. Small of Casco; four grandsons; his granddaughter; three step-granddaughters; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and his best friends and AA sponsors, Albert and Joanna Leborge of Westbrook.
