LEWISTON – Anita S. Gosselin, 86, of Blake Street Towers, Lewiston, died Saturday, Dec. 16, at the d’Youville Pavilion.
She was born in Lewiston on Dec. 5, 1920, the daughter of Raoul and Yvonne Morin Mathieu. Educated locally, she was the valedictorian of her eighth grade class at Holy Family School.
On July 22, 1939, she was married to Roland R. Gosselin, who passed away on June 3, 1972. She was one of the first residents of Blake Street Towers, moving there in 1973.
She started on the resident council there in 1975, and over the next 20 years served in every office on the council. She was also a resident commissioner for the Lewiston Housing Authority for 16 years.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, shopping with her daughter, crafts and playing cards, especially the weekly Saturday night family card game at her son Bert’s house. She was a member of Holy Cross Parish.
She is survived by four sons, Roger, and wife, Dee, of Rocky Mount, N.C., Bert, and wife, Dot, of Sabattus, Robert, and longtime companion, Bev, of Maryland and Roland, and longtime companion, Cynthia, of Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Lorraine, and husband, Troy Moore, of Harrison; two brothers, Bertrand Mathieu of Lewiston and Robert, and wife, Cecile Mathieu, of Lewiston; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Gosselin of Lewiston; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and huband, she was predeceased by a son, Normand; a granddaughter, Cindy Gosselin; and two sisters, Jeannette LaFlamme and Lucille Bergeron.
