AUBURN – Joseph Raymond Brennick, 86, died on Sunday, Dec. 17, at the Hospice House.

He was born Dec. 21, 1919, in Rumford, the son of John and Yvonne (Provencher) Brennick. After graduating from Stephens High School in Rumford, he attended Farmington Normal School.

In 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and was discharged in 1945 as a captain. He went on to further his degree at Farmington Normal School, where he met and married Inez Hilton on their graduation day June 15, 1946. He continued his formal education, receiving a master of education at the University of Maine in Orono. He served as superintendent of schools throughout Maine retiring in 1978 from MSAD 9.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years and his six children, Joseph Jr., and his wife, Katherine, Pamela Brown, and her husband, Paul, Michael, and his wife, Joan, Peter, Patrick, and his wife, Kate and Susan Koch, and spouse, Fred; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
