Christmas is a time to slow down, be thankful for those who have helped you, and try to help others. Hearing or reading about examples is especially heartwarming and can inspire others to do more.

Unfortunately, the Sun Journal apparently doesn’t share that viewpoint. A recent article on trees donated for troops was cheering to read, but left out contributing farms, including Dun Roamin’ Tree Farm, my father’s endeavor (to which my only connection is sentimental). Not only did he donate, but he also served as the local dropoff and borrowed a box truck, personally delivering the trees to Newburgh. No mention of his farm was made because the story, although already late, evidentally was rushed.

To follow that up, a recent b-Section highlighted tree farms, however, many were not local farms, or even the farms that the Sun Journal has as advertising customers. Perhaps that was also done in a rush, preventing cross-referencing the two?

It seems to me that heartwarming stories are often incomplete.

It also seems that advertisers can expect the Sun Journal to thank them by promoting non-local competitors for free in articles.

A New Year’s resolution for the Sun Journal might be a change in focus – more complete, unrushed stories and fewer columns of sex definitions and gripes as found in the b-Section. And advertisers would probably prefer being thanked for their business by being mentioned in stories, rather than their competition.
