HADLEY, Mass. (AP) – Ten University of Massachusetts students have pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from a riot that broke out on the Amherst campus following their football team’s loss in the Division 1-AA championship game.

Four were arraigned in Hadley District Court on Tuesday; six others were arraigned Monday.

Charges included disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, failure to disperse in a riot, breaking and entering, mistreatment of a police horse or dog and destruction of property.

UMass police say the riot after the football team’s loss to Appalachian State Friday was one of the worst disturbances at the school.

University officials say they’re still assessing the damage done to the campus, and are reviewing what disciplinary action to take against the students. Punishment could include expulsion and loss of this semester’s academic record.
