LEWISTON — Fire fighters continue to pump water into 167 Lisbon St. Wednesday morning, trying to extinguish a fire that began more than 12 hours ago.
The late-night blaze tore through three vacant buildings, including the former Marcos Restaurant. The roof and a couple of floors collapsed inside, creating pockets of smoldering fire this morning, Fire Chief Paul LeClair said.
Dube’s Flower-Gift Shop, Gilbert Gallery & Framing, U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud’s office and the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce are all on that same block.
Downtown Lisbon Street remains closed and, because fire fighters continue to use water near power lines, electricity has been shut off to all businesses on the same side of the street as the fire. LeClair hopes to have power restored by the end of the day.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. Because the building remains too dangerous to enter, investigators have been unable to fully examine the fire scene.
