Lewiston – Leo J. Derocher, 84, of Highland Avenue, passed away on Monday, Dec. 18, at his home.
He was born in Brunswick on July 17, 1922, the son of Albert and Rebecca (Cote) Derocher.
He married Rose Boucher of Rumford on Oct. 3, 1942.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. While serving in the armed forces he took part in the D-Day invasion and landed on Omaha Beach. He was with the Second Infantry Division until sustaining an injury in the Battle of the Bulge, where he received a Purple Heart. He was then honorably discharged due to his injuries.
He enjoyed time with his family and was very excited to see the Red Sox win the World Series.
He was a truck driver for many years before retiring from the Auburn School Department.
He was the last survivor in his original family.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rose, of Lewiston; children, Leo Jr. of Lewiston, Joe of Lewiston, Connie Paradis, and her husband, Jean, of Florida, Larry, and his wife, Sunanda, of India, Michael, and his wife, Beverly, of Sabattus and Patty Dow, and her husband, Eric, of New Hampshire; six grandchildren, Joe, Halsey, Zachary, Isaac, Eric, Gopal; and two great-grandchildren, Garrett and Bailey.
