FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) – The New England Patriots placed punter Ken Walter on injured reserve Tuesday with a knee injury – the second punter the team has placed on the list in the past month.

Walter, 34, was signed by the Patriots on Nov. 22 to replace Josh Miller, who is out for the season with an injured shoulder. Walter played in four games, punting 16 times for 591 yards. Five punts landed inside the 20, and he had no touchbacks.

Walter has played 123 career games for New England, Carolina and Seattle. He played for the Patriots for three seasons before being replaced by Miller in 2004.

With the move, the Patriots have only rookie punter Danny Baugher on the practice squad.

The Patriots also released two players Tuesday, safety Guss Scott and Justin Phinisee, a defensive back on the practice squad.

Scott, 24, was signed by the Patriots on Dec. 12 and made one defensive tackle and one special teams tackle in Sunday’s win over Houston. He played five games for the Patriots in 2005 and five games with the Texans this season.

Phinisee, 23, was signed to the Patriots practice squad on Dec. 12. He also spent time on Kansas City’s practice squad this season.
