LEWISTON – Law enforcement representatives from several agencies were moving through the downtown late Thursday night in search of suspects in Tuesday’s fire that destroyed three buildings on Lisbon Street.

Lewiston police were joined by investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms as leads developed in the investigation.

Police and federal agents went to several neighborhoods to speak with witnesses about the fire.

By 11 p.m., a teenager was being questioned at the police station, but officials declined to say if the teen was a witness or a suspect.

By 11:30 p.m., the team of police and fire investigators remained out in force, meeting regularly at the Lewiston police station to review the probe.

Almost from the start, police have described the late Tuesday night blaze at the former site of Marco’s Restaurant as suspicious. Witnesses described seeing three young people dashing from an alley behind the buildings that burned.

The cause of the blaze has not been released.
