AUBURN – Ruth Asselin Poirier, 83, of Auburn died Wednesday, Dec. 20, at The Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice.

She was born in Coaticook, Canada, on May 2, 1923, the daughter of the late Wilfred and Prudence (Gravel) Cameron.

She married Fernand Asselin Sr. on Feb. 25, 1941, and together they raised a family of four children. He predeceased her, and later she married Thomas Poirier. They resided in Florida for many years.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church. She enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived four children, Richard Asselin, and wife, Irene, of Auburn, Lennie Asselin, and wife, Denise, of Lewiston, Fern Asselin, and wife, Muriel, of Lewiston and Suzette Schepers of Romulas, Mich.; two sisters, Jenny Bilodeau of Florida and Rachel Pittman of Brunswick; three brothers, Lawrence “Joe” Cameron, Laurier “Larry” Cameron and Wilfred “Willie” Cameron, all of Florida; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Fernando Cameron; and a sister, Priscilla Chamberland.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Hospice House, especially Dr. Roger Austin, for their exceptional care.
