NORWAY – Beulah H. Lane, 86, of Dixfield, died unexpectedly Friday, Dec. 22, at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway shortly after arrival after several months of failing health.
She was born on Aug. 23, 1920, the daughter of Verdell and Gertrude (Drown) Holman. She graduated from Dixfield High School in 1940.
Mrs. Lane worked at Stowell-MacGregor and at Lancaster’s Diner (Ellis Variety) where she met her future husband, Richard Lane. They were married on Oct. 19, 1946, in Peru by Rev. John Godfrey.
They moved to their home on Pine Street and raised two children and lived there for 55 years until Richard’s death in 2001. She then lived there with her daughter, Cynthia.
As her children grew older, she used to take in washing and ironing and later went out to do housework and baby-sit for various townspeople.
She was a former member of the Rebekah’s, Dixfield Social Club, Mt. Sugarloaf Grange, TOPS and the Dixfield Alumni Association.
Before her eyesight failed, she enjoyed embroidery, word search puzzles and television, especially “The Price Is Right.”
She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Lane of Dixfield; a son, Jeffrey and his wife, Joanne, of Springvale; grandchildren, Ryan and Katie of Springvale; sister, Thirza Towle of Dixfield; brothers-in-law, Roger and Russell Lane of Peru; sister-in-law, Elizabeth of Peru; and several nieces and nephews;
She was predeceased by her husband in 2001; two sisters, Lura Dodge and Thera Holman; three brothers, Lyman, Durward and Theron; and a sister-in-law, Vera Lane.
