PINEHURST, N.C. – Doctor A. “D.A.” Fields, 71, of Westview Road, Carthage, N.C., died Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, N.C.

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, “cowboy and helicopter pilot extraordinaire,” Doc Fields was a native of Moore County, N.C. He was a son of the late James Lynn and Vallie Phillips Fields.

He was a U. S. Army Veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, attaining the rank of warrant officer. He retired as a helicopter pilot for Walker Machinery Co. in Charleston, W.V.

A lifelong member of Cool Springs United Methodist Church, he was presently serving as chairman of the board of pastor-parish relations.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Louvene Sanders Fields; a daughter, Kimberley R. Fields and her husband, Curt A. Schmeck, of Charleston, W.V; a son, David A. Fields and his wife, Jessie, of Auburn; two sisters, Dora Anne Maness of Carthage, N.C., and Lorraine Williams of Robbins, N.C.; a brother, Leonard Fields of Stokesdale, N.C.; and five grandchildren, Doctor River Fields, Taylor and Mary Schmeck, and Ella and Tula Fields.
