ATLANTA – Shane Hnidy scored the go-ahead goal in the second period, and Slava Kozlov padded the lead midway through the third in the Atlanta Thrashers’ 5-2 victory over New Jersey on Saturday night.

Atlanta has won three straight overall and three in a row over the Devils, including two victories in five days. The Thrashers have six consecutive victories over New Jersey at Philips Arena.

Zach Parise scored two goals for the Devils. Atlanta’s first power-play opportunity had just expired when Hnidy gave the Thrashers a 3-2 lead 6:42 into the second. Hnidy beat Martin Brodeur over the left shoulder with a wrister from outside the top of the right circle.

Islanders 4, Jackets 0

UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Rick DiPietro stopped 26 shots for his third shutout this season and the New York Islanders’ first win over the Columbus Blue Jackets, 4-0 on Saturday night.

Jason Blake, Trent Hunter, Mike Sillinger and Viktor Kozlov each scored for New York, 0-5-2 in seven previous games against Columbus. Alexei Yashin and Radek Martinek had two assists apiece.

Capitals 3, Maple Leafs 2

TORONTO – Alexander Ovechkin scored his 24th goal, Olaf Kolzig made 35 saves and the Washington Capitals held on for a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night.

Alexander Semin and Dainius Zubrus also scored power-play goals for the Capitals.

Mats Sundin scored twice in the third period to rally Toronto. He scored on a penalty shot at 3:16 of third and again just 14 seconds later.

Senators 6, Flyers 3

PHILADELPHIA – Ottawa’s Daniel Alfredsson scored twice, including the go-ahead goal with 8:25 left, and the Senators defeated Philadelphia 6-3 to extend the Flyers’ franchise-record losing streak to nine games.

Joseph Corvo, Chris Phillips, Denis Hamel, and Peter Schaefer also scored for the Senators, who had dropped two straight and six of their previous eight games.

Lightning 4, Rangers 3

TAMPA, Fla. – Dan Boyle had three goals and an assist during a four-goal third period, rallying the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 4-3 victory over the slumping New York Rangers on Saturday night.

The Lightning appeared headed to their ninth loss in 12 games, trailing 3-0 after two periods.

Boyle changed the momentum with two goals in the first 2:29 of the third.

Hurricanes 3, Panthers 2

SUNRISE, Fla. – Erik Cole scored 1:59 into overtime and the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Florida Panthers 3-2 Saturday night for their fourth straight win.

It was Cole’s 15th goal of the season. He put the puck into the right side of the net on a rebound after Ed Belfour had come out to the left edge of the crease. Cole has a point in five straight games.

Wild 3, Red Wings 2

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Pierre-Marc Bouchard beat Chris Osgood on a breakaway in overtime to give the Minnesota Wild a 3-2 comeback victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night.

Bouchard grabbed a turnover by Pavel Datsyuk at the blue line, then lifted a backhand shot over Osgood’s glove, giving Minnesota its NHL-best 11th overtime win of the season.

Predators 7, Kings 0

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Jason Arnott, J.P Dumont and David Legwand each scored twice and Chris Mason had 34 saves to lead the Nashville Predators to a 7-0 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday night.

Paul Kariya also scored for the Predators and Mason got his third shutout of the season. It also marked the first time in franchise history three Predators scored two goals in a game.

Stars 3, Oilers 2

DALLAS – Jon Klemm had a goal and and assist for his first two points of the season, Marty Turco stopped 20 shots and the Dallas Stars beat the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 on Saturday night.

Jere Lehtinen and Philippe Boucher also scored and Eric Lindros had two assists for the Stars, winners of three of their last four.

Klemm, moved from defense to right wing by coach Dave Tippett earlier this week, had been scoreless in his first 11 games this season.
