Unlike Jim Grenier, whose letter appeared Dec. 18 in the Sun Journal, I believe the T.J. Mikesell story to be both important and alarming for me as an American citizen and longtime resident of L-A.

To paraphrase Leonard Pitts in his column which also appeared Dec. 18, my freedom is bound up with everyone’s freedom. I would like to remind Mr. Grenier that there are more civilized, compassionate ways of addressing diffferences of opinion than through cowardly, illegal attacks furtively placed in mailboxes; and that it is the duty of the press to keep us alert to such incursions on our freedom.
