STAUNTON, Va. – Donald Mahlon Greenleaf, 77, husband of Norma (Wentworth) Greenleaf, of 113 Sproul Lane, Staunton, Va., died Sunday night, Dec. 24, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 24, 1929, in Wilton, a son of the late Mahlon and Dorris (Hathaway) Greenleaf. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Navy, having served in the Korean and the Vietnam wars.

During the Korean War, he was on the transport ship, AKA Winston. In the Vietnam War he served as a sheet metal smith and later was a flight engineer. He was in the Navy Squadron VPII. From 1970 to 1975, he served as a Navy recruiter in New York and as a career counselor from 1975 to 1980. He retired from the Navy in 1980.

He was a member of the Masonic Harmony Lodge in Gorham.

In addition to his wife of 54 years, whom he married April 13, 1952, family members include a son, Michael Donald Greenleaf of Sanford; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and James Violette of Portland; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Merton and Cecelia Greenleaf of Brunswick and Albert and Betty Greenleaf of Auburn; a sister, Valerie Houle of Jay; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a number of special nieces and nephews.
