MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) – Bill and Jolene Slattery have a special Christmas message for a city firefighter: thank you.

They want firefighter David Flurey to know they think he’s a hero for breaking their fall when they dropped from a burning building last week.

The two were trapped on the third floor and had no choice but to risk a 15-foot drop from a hallway window. Flurey stood on a roof above the first story and caught them both.

Their two children also escaped the burning building.
