LEWISTON – HealthSteps at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center announces its Exercise for People with Arthritis class. The course is designed for individuals with rheumatic disease who are limited by impaired joint motion and/or strength. The course will provide participants with a safe program.

Goals of the class include relieve stiffness, restore or maintain joint range of motion, increase flexibility of the structures surrounding the joint, restore or maintain muscle strength, improve posture and increase endurance,

The instructor will teach breathing and relaxation techniques; introduce activities to promote body awareness, posture, balance and coordination; incorporate exercises to improve body mechanics, range of motion, strength and endurance; and offer practical tips for self care and better health.

The class will be offered from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 2 through Feb. 1, at a cost of $22 (fee is waived for HealthSteps core members).
