AUBURN – Lola F. Collins, 88, formerly of 4 Russell Ave. and Barker Arms, Auburn, died Monday, Dec. 25, at Clover Manor Nursing Home, where she resided for the past two weeks.
She was born in Mechanic Falls, Feb. 26, 1918, a daughter of Albert and Evis Bridge Frost. She attended Mechanic Falls High School and earned her GED diploma while a resident of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
She married John F. Collins on Sept. 4, 1935. He predeceased her in 1978. She worked as a secretary and receptionist for the RSVP Program and also worked at Community Concepts, retiring in December 1989.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Lewiston. She loved spending time with her family, especially family gatherings at Thompson Lake, Bailey Island and in Auburn. She enjoyed traveling about the country, listening to “oldies but goodies” music and the Barker Arms “Reminisce Club,” which she founded. She was an avid Red Sox fan. She will be remembered for her cheerful and optimistic attitude. She enjoyed life and made many friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Martha A. Collins of Auburn; five sons, John F. Jr., and wife, Catharine, of Bangor, Michael D., and wife, Elizabeth, of Greenville, Thomas J., and wife, Donna, of Berwick, Timothy A., and wife, Sharon, of Oxford and Matthew D., and wife, Fredericka, of Lewiston; 11 grandchildren, Kathleen Lees, Michael Collins Jr., Mary Ellen Baugher, James Collins, John P. Collins, Michelle McAllister, Maureen Tripp, Jennifer Beaudoin, Sean Collins, Jessie Collins, and Stephen Collins; 13 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Raymond Frost, and wife, Dorothy, of Mechanic Falls and Vernard Frost, and wife, Phyllis, of Scarborough.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Marguerite Larock and Charlotte Hartley.
