BRUNSWICK – Diane L. Allen, 69, of 376 College St., Lewiston, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Mid Coast Hospital, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Lewiston on Oct. 3, 1937, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Tarr) Hadakin and had been a resident of this community all of her life.

She was employed as a licensed practical nurse at Marcotte Nursing Home and had retired from Russell Park Manor in 2004. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, the Maine Mayflower Society and volunteered five years at the American Red Cross.

When her children were younger, she was an active PTA member at St. Joseph’s School and a Den mother for the Cub Scouts.

She enjoyed traveling, knitting, gardening, crafts and was very interested in researching her family genealogy. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and her great-grandchild.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, J. Norman Allen, whom she married on June 14, 1958 of Lewiston; two sons, Joe Allen, and his wife, Robin, of South Portland and John J. Allen of Lewiston; three daughters, Kellie Conway of Grafton, Mass., Kaylene Stephens of Hampton, Va. and Kacie Poage, and her husband, Sean, of South Portland; one sister, Carol McFadden, and her husband, Richard, of Auburn; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by six sisters; and two brothers.
