AUBURN – The YMCA, with the help of sponsors like the Thomas Lahey Foundation, Fred Hall Sr. and others, has introduced a new event, “The Breakfast of Champions.” The event provides an opportunity for boys and girls involved in the youth basketball program to eat a healthy breakfast before or after their weekend games.

A breakfast of milk, juice, cereal, bagels, breakfast bars and fruit is available at the YMCA Teen Center where the kids can help themselves throughout the morning.

In addition to providing a healthy breakfast, an environment is fostered where players, friends and families can spend positive time together playing games, fooseball, pool or socializing.

In conjunction with “The Breakfast of Champions” is “The Game of the Week.” Each Saturday and Sunday, the first game of the day is highlighted with an amplified introduction of each player against a musical backdrop followed by the playing of the Star Spangled Banner through the YMCA’s newly acquired sound system.

The game is filmed and can be viewed during the rest of the morning on the Teen Center’s large screen TV.
